question on rpm's on a new motor i can run 36mph (full speed) but i am only showing turning 3200rpm. the mannual says at 36mph it should be 4500-5000rpm. any input?

Good points from Snuffy. I would check the tach, then make sure the prop is ok. Also the trim of the motor comes into play on this. What size motor and boat is it?

Sorry just saw the size of the motor in the heading. I would check the size of the prop as this is low rpms for this motor. Maybe step down a size and check where the trim level is. If it does not have trim then look at the cross pin in the motor and move it up one notch.

By the way.... Welcome to the forum!

the motor runs fine top speed is 36mph/specs say top speed is around 32. but the rpm gauge read 2800 max. it idles at the correct rpm. the prop is the correct sixe according to yamaha. boat is brand new do i just have a bad tach?

I have the same motor on a 2006 eagle G3. I have been having the same problems. Boat Idles at the correct RPM's but when running at full speed 36mph I am only turning around 3200 RPM. Called the dealership where I bought the boat and the guy explained to me it was most likely the tach, and it needs to be adjusted. He said it was a two second job. Hope this helps.
