55hp suzuki motor problem

My uncle bought a boat about 2 months ago and we finally got to take it out on the water today but when we got there and cranked the engine up it would run but when you would put it in gear it was like it was bogging down, then it would die. wouldnt go to a full throttle it would just idle around on the water. after we got it home we hooked it up to the water hose and cranked it up put it in gear and it would go full throttle, just not in the river....lol. is there something we are missing or is it just bad luck on the motor. any help would be appreciated

Did you check behind the prop to see if you have a wad of Line first. secondly. I suspect that someone replaced the prop with an OMC prop instead of the zuki... The hubs are reversed from each other in the hub design. I have an aluminum Suzuki Prop that will fit that engine and I also have a special machined thrust washer/Bushing so you can run the OMC prop on your zuki ... The easy way for you to tell without knowing how to ID your prop type is to remove the prop and see if the aluminum on the engine foot appears that the prop is scrapping the housing. Without going out and digging out that Prop to see for sure, I am thinking that if you see The rubber Hub bushing inside the prop from the front it is OMC If you see the rubber from the rear of the prop it is a Suzuki prop. What is happening is that while at slow speeds there is adequate clearance ... However when under power the Suzuki prop thrust washer will not restrict the OMC prop from pushing forward into the Engine housing. Do not run the engine until you figure this out. </p>

The prop I have is a factory Suzuki 15 pitch. in mint condition. No scratches.

DNPank ... I am still very curious as to whether or not someone had put an OMC prop on your Zuki. Again I have a bushing that allows for you to run an omc.

im sorry, i havent checked with my uncle to see whats up with the boat with work and all, but i will let you when i find out something. thanks again for responding about my question.if he does need that bushing i will contact you about getting the one you have. thanks again
