6-6-2006 Catfish Report from Racoon

When we got to the boat ramp there was two nice tour buses and a large party barge tied at the dock. Something about VIP's for Riverbend were leaving the barge and boarding the tour buses. So, we had to go to Sullivans to put in.

We decided today to fish larger bait in hopes of catching some big fish. I started with a whole skipjack (acutally a head with two fillets and guts hanging off it). The first bit got one side of the fillet and before long all I had left was a head. Nothing in the river would tough the head. Go figure.

We did manage to catch one cat on a whole fillet. It was 16.5 lbs. The other boat that fished with us also only boated one cat at round 8 lbs. The current was rolling but not much action. The 16.5 came from a "hole" off the bottom in 48 feet.

The jigging spoon did not produce a single hit. I may need more training.

Well you all are consistent in catching a few even if you did catch one per boat...it's better than I did working from home tonight. You must have a nice camera - that pic is incredible the way the sun is shining on the hill...I do believe that is one of the nicest areas of the river to fish. Thanks for the report!

The camera is a Sony (3.2 megapixels) that writes to mini CD's. It takes very good pictures but is sort of bulky. My mother has a Sony that will fit in your pocket and takes the same quality pictures. It was only about $150 from BestBuy.

I love fishing up a Racoon due to the scenery. It was beautify over there today even without catching fish.

Very nice picture Mr. Whiskers ... are you POSITIVE you aren't a relative of DHaun???? The picture is incredible like David said ... I think a lot of pictures that aren't SO good (like mine) have a lot to do with the operator (like me). I hate electronic stuff!

I am working on a go-tee so you guys will really be confused. And no I don't think we are related.

I found the best way to get a good picture is to let someone else take the pic. This pic was taken by my co-worker (Alvin) and he has a nack for always getting a good shot.
