I put in after work for a couple of hours. I got there about 5:30 and the current was really rolling up at the dam. I caught a few fresh skipjacks for bait and my first ever drum that must have weighed 20 or 30 lbs. after that I shot down river just a little bit and drifted over a likely looking spot or two without much success. I decided to run back up to the dam for dusk so I could toss the redfin and see if anything was interested. Just when I am about to get up to the dam the motor starts sputtering and loses power well since I had no idea what was I just used the trolling motor to get back to the ramp. Im thinking it may be water in the gas but if anyone else out there has any other ideas let me know.

Sounds like water in the gas.

Are you running plastic or steel gas can?

I used to add a 1/2 bottle of achohol to my gas mix. (6 gallon tank) Burns any water off when it hit the motor! Works Great!

I just had something similar happen to me. It turned out my carbrators were tarnished and had to be cleaned. But it could be anything though even electrical. Check the spark plugs.

Pull your plugs out and look for signs of damage to the motor, i.e. metal flakes or burned up plugs. Mine did the same thing, and the number 5 cylinder had come apart on me. A sudden loss of power like that can be a motor seizing up.
