7-15-2006 Riverpark Bass and Cats

Went bass fishing from the Riverpark this morning with my co-worker Alvin. The bass were very "fussy" today. They would follow our baits all the way the boat and just peck at them. I bet we say 30 fish this way. We ended up boating 9 bass, all small. The larger fish from last weekend were not to be found. We caught fish on Sammys, lizards, little 1" Rebel minnows, and Pop-R. The threadfin are around 1" long and if you found fish breaking on them you could almost guarantee that you could catch the bass on topwater. They bit should get better with larger fish as the threadfins get larger in a few weeks.

We decided to spend a few minutes and catfish a new spot that I found while bass fishing last week. In about 45 minutes we boated 2 fish, whiffed on about 3 and had a few bait stealers. Not bad considering it was already 10AM and HOT.

You guys are in big trouble as the CAT Battle is a sure thing with Dhaun's secret bait and my new secret hole. You can just give Dhaun and I the money now and save your gas money.

Oh yeah, for the third straight trip we were greeted by a family of Racoons. The mother and 3 babies just watch us from the bank and I think they wanted us to throw them a fish.

I almost always see a raccoon early in the morning while fishing the river this time of year. They are always walking the banks flipping rocks and digging around in the water. Its nice to see all the wildlife while fishing, another reason I love going!

Good pics too. I have seen them running up and down the bank at the creek across from Moccasin Bend. I was fishing in there one day and had a coon come all the way out on a limb and looked like he was gonna try to get in the boat with me. Then I noticed he was washing his fish off and went back to the bank to eat. Good report.
