Had so much fun yesterday Alvin and I went back this morning. We killed them. We boated 26 bass (covering all species) with the largest being 3.2 lbs and lost probably another 15 or so. Alvin caught the big one using a Devil's Horse. I had not fished a Devil's Horse since I was a kid and I kinda chuckled inside when he tied it on. The bass was in about 2 feet of water and I watched it come from about 3 feet away to take the bait.

The morning was great as the clouds were present for most of it and the bass were hyperactive. They were in little hunter packs of 2-5 fish busting shad on the surface. All I had to do was throw my little Sammy at one of the swells and it was on. I actually saw numerous fish try to take the bait away from the ones I had hooked.

Water depth was anywhere from 2 feet to 30 feet on the surface. I caught all 16 of my fish on the little Sammy (a Spook type bait) and Alvin caught his on Devil's Horse, Pop-R, and Lizard.

Very nice bass. The largest bass i've caught this year came out of that canal right behind you.

It is really shallow and I think is full of carp right now as it was muddy and bubbles were coming up everywhere. I just wish I had some corn with me. We fished it a little but I think the water temp is too high to hold bass in there right now.

Thats my favorite part of the river to fish is right there in that area. I caught that bass back in april and while not very large she weighed 5/11 on my rapala digital scales. I've caught a few near that weight since but seems so far this year its not happened for me with anything bigger yet as far as bass. Might have been drum since i've seen huge ones down there and hung a few and never could get em to the boat but close enough to see em. And i swear some had to be 40 or 50 pounds. When you spook em they will take off real quick and sometimes thump the bottom of your boat. Back in april all those drum/carp were if you were to go down river just a little ways from where your at there and take your left round the corner and theres a small shallow flat area there with a long dock and thats where they like to hang out. It heats up real good and quick in spring and only bout a foot or two deep there on that flat area and the bass love it there before the big drum come in and run em off. I'll go down there and throw a wordens rooster tail and hang into those huge things, seems to be the only thing i can catch em with. What a fight and they are very powerfull fighters.
