I am a mom of three boys, ages 4, 7 and 8. My 7 yr old is really interested in fishing. We (well, I was there!) have fished some in salt water in florida. We have a large pond in our subdivision here in N. Georgia that we can fish from. My husband takes them fishing when he can but he works out of town m-f and is only in on weekends. Sooo..I am trying to be that good mom by getting interested in what my son likes. Are there any childrens fishing times/places or events? In Jacksonville Beach, they had one a month for kids--volunteers even let them borrow the poles and spent about 10 minutes with each kid, then let them fish for 20 minutes. It was great.
I know my son doesn't need a fishing license, do I? Even if I'm not fishing? If anyone knows of any basic information, or common beginners mistakes, for me, esp. where events for kids might be posted. I would really appreciate it.
thanks, Lisa :bobber1:

You should not need a license if you are not fishing. Local kids events should be published in your local paper. Also, check with local bass clubs for events they put on. Email me and I should be able to put you in touch with a local club - or post where you live here.

You won't need a license if you aren't fishing, but if you assist your children in any way, then you do need a license. This is in Tennessee, I don't know about Georgia. I took a preacher one year who decided not to buy a license and his little girl was fishing. He just watched her for a while and then helped her do something (can't remember what he was helping her with) and a game warden was watching. We were fishing from the bank at the Wolftever bridge. He gave him a ticket. It was thrown out by the judge, but he still had to pay court costs. Over 100 dollars.

Catoosa County recreation has a pond for fishing. I know for several years they have had a children's fishing rodeo. I will check with one of directors and see what they have going on.

Mrs, Gator.
Fist off, Welcome,, We are glad to have you here, you are welcome to ask a million question , feel free, lots of good people to help... Im down in Calhoun "below Dalton" , and at Salicoa Park they have a kids fishing rodio a couple of times a yr that I know of, but im not sure of any info on it, you might try "GA DNR" web site "do a search" for a little more info on it and any others in the area, thats where I would start...

last I heard a georgia general license was cheap compared to Tennessee. A closed-face reel can be purchased in a combo at low cost. It can be quite cheap to get you fishing with your boys. I carry aroud two tackle boxes, big ones, but if you know what you want to do at the water not much tackle is needed.

emoWelcome lisa we need more women and kids interested in outdoor sports.Take advantage of your boys interest and spend some unforgetable moments with them-Logan-

According to the info I read when following this link, it appears you would not need a license when fishing on private property where you reside. If you live in the subdivision where the pond is, that is the pond is an amenity of the subdivision for the benefit of all residents, then I would SUSPECT that you don't need a license to fish there. The safest thing to do is to call the GA wildlife folks and get a ruling before going fishing without a license.

Welcome to the CFF. In Georgia you do not need a liscense to fish private ponds. If you choose to buy one for fishing public waters it is $9 if you don't fish in trout waters. Not knowing where you are located I can tell you of several public places that have good bank fishing. Queen City Lake,LaFayette, GA, James H.Sloppy Floyd State Park, Summerville,GA, Rocky Mtn. Public Fishing Area,Armuchee,GA. These are good safe places to fish and have lots of opportunities to catch some fish. On the second Saturday of September we have a fishing rodeo for children and adults in the south end of Walker County. I will post details here in August. If you don't do any good in the next week or two send me a PM and I will gladly put you onto some good private pond fishing.
