70hp Johnson power loss.

My 70hp johnson has started acting up on me. When ever i start to put some gas to the motor it seems like it dont have any power at all. but when I have it full throttle (which it runs about 5mph) It kinda acts like it bogs down on me. But after about 5 mins of going bout 5mph I can hear they motor rev up some and gradually speed up and plane off. Sometimes it takes about 10 mins to make it plane off and go bout 25 or so. The people I have talked to seems to think that its either the power packs, coils, or the stator. I have another 70 johnson about the same year model that is in pieces so I have the parts to it when needed. I just need some peoples opinions on what could be wrong with it.

Look to see if you caught the top coil driver wire with the cowl. Have seen them ripped completely off.


Do you have a timing light??? If so, I can walk you through some simple ignition test.
