After spending two day's in the rain and wind in a treestand and not seeing a single deer, I decided to go fishing. I arrived at Sequoyah about
9:00 am Sunday morning. Going slow and looking at my fish finder, I spot two very large fish. I back up, turned off the motor and dropped anchor. After dropping three rods with skipjack on them, I settled back for what I thought could be a long waite emoScratch In less than 5 minutes, my back rod loaded up. emoBigsmile As soon as I took hold of it, I knew I had a very big fish on. After about 20 minutes, the fish went around the anchor rope two times, being alone, it was every thing I could do to hold the rod and pull up the anchor and undo the line emoDoh
After about 40 minutes of fighting, I got him in the net. emoUpsmile
I then tied the net to the side of my pontoon boat with the fish in the water and waited 15 minutes and flagged down a boat with two guys in it to help me. We pulled the fish in and weighed it and took pictures. emoBigsmile
Baitbucket will post later. The fish was released and doing fine. emoToast

I was using 25 lb. test with a 30 lb. leader. I was very lucky to land this fish after it got around my anchor. emoRolleyes

That's what I was thinking ... not only did you hook up with a KOWABUNGA fish .. you over came some obstacles that the average fisherman wouldn't! :)

Alone ... fish that weights 10 times more than the average fish ... smart enough to wrap around your anchor rope ... the adrenilene rush must of been off the charts!!!

Makes it an even nicer catch .. if all that had happened to me, I'm sure I'd have to be put in the hospital to recover!

it sure pays to watch the fish finder! latley ours hasn't shown anything, although too tall did manage to pull up a 30 lb tree limb!emoBang
congratulations on the big boy!

Nice fish!!! I'd have been so nervous I couldn't talk after he got around that anchor rope! I don't see how you did it man! Not on 25 lb test. It takes some skill to land one that big. Way to go!!!!!emoWorthy

Great job Fishing machine!!!!!! You are really blessed to get out so often. It was great to meet you at the map study. Maybe one of these days you'll hook into a 100lber. Whether you can whip one that size with 25lb test is another story. Have you ever used a bouy for your anchor so when you hook up you can let your anchor go, fight the fish and come back for the anchor later. That might decrease your chances of getting into the anchor in the future, just a suggestion.

WOW! What a great fish. It's great to see one that size survive the jugfisherman that use that portion of the river. Congratulations. emoWorthy

That's a good idea Polo-dog, I'm going to have to do something. These big fish know how to get you into things. When you're by yourself, it's hard to do very much and hold on to the fish at the same time.
It's like FF said, you get nervous when something goes wrong while fighting these fish. Because of the anchor rope and the line size, I was very lucky to get this fish in. But we all need a little luck sometimes, and someone watching over us too.
