hey guys a friend of mine just got a fabrica de armas gun it has 7mm stamped on the left side of the barrel and also on top of the receiver it has that name and Oviedo i906 the man he got it from said it shot 762x39 I can not find a gun in that caliber what is the difference in 7mm mausser and 762x39 he shot the gun with the 762x39 and it shot fine but I don't think it is the same but it may be close in info would be very helpful thanks guys

I think 7.62 is the same as .308 and 7mm is .284.

7mm and 7.62 have NOTHING in common at all. The fact that he shot it without knowing for sure what caliber it is scary as hell. I hope he doesnt live around me.

If that rifle is stamped 7mm then it is more than likely 7mm Mauser which is 7x57 mm with bullet diameter of 7.24 if it is 7.62 x 39 mm the 7mm will not chamber and its scary to think of shooting the 7.63 x 39 mm in that rifle the bullet diameter of the 7.62 is larger its 7.92 mm. All that being said take it to a reputable gunsmith and be sure what you have

That takes either Guts or no Brains to ever do anything like that... There are way too many professionals in the many gun shops plus no one should be in such a rush to hear the bang of a gun when uncertain of something as important as the Caliber. He is a Lucky person today but he was really pushing his luck... I think your friend needs to stick with fishing...</p>
