898 si or 1198 si

Is the humminbird 1198 double price better
than the 898 im trying to decide which to save for. Can get the 898 sooner and use this fall or will have to wait til spring on 1198 any info will help in decision thanks

i would wait till spring think you will be happier in the long run i had a 998 and it was great but used aa 1198 once and had to get one the bigger screen is awsome

All 4 SI units are great but the bigger the screen the easier it is to see the small details in the data. So the 1198c will be easier to see the small returns like fish versus the larger screen of the 1198c.

I would get the biggest you can afford.

I currently run the 998c on bow and 1198c at the console. And ran the 898c on the bow last year. All three are great units.

998 will work and you'll see things just fine. That mamma jamma 1198 is sweet bit I don't think ts worth the extra for the screen.

I know a local pro that said his next is a 998.

The 1198 is worth the money for a bigger screen.. I wish i'd of got the 1197 when i got my 997 forsure.. I've played with Mike Bucca's enough to see a difference..

I bought the 898 this year and love it. If I would have had the money I would have went with the 1198. The bigger screen is very nice. I bought mine at http://www.universalmania.com/product.asp?pf_id=407820-1 and got it for 1200 brand new. They have the 1198 for 2350. If you get one you need to check out all the postings and web site from Doug V he has some great info on how to get the most out of the unit.

This buying a side scan has me all confused I can get either 998 or 1198if just don't want to spend needles money on a 21198 inch bigger screen if its not going to show me 750 dollars more of detail

THe 1198c is worth every penny for me. It's so much easier to see the same details. So much I set my boat up this year so I can move the Big Screen where I need it bow or console by just changing out the cable collector. THe 1198c is the Ultimate SI unit and makes it so easy to see the little details. If you go with the 1198c you'll never second guess if you want the bigger screen. Not only do you get bigger screen but you dual faster processors inside that make using the super high detail mapping so much faster. I'm runnign the 998c and 1198c right now and would love to have twin 1198c...but I can switch in a few minutes when I want the Big Screen on the bow only takes a minute to switch cable collectors.
