Is there anyway to make the data (temp, depth, etc...) on the left hand side of the screen take up less space? I know you can make the font smaller but the display boxes are still big. Also can you move the data to the bottom of the display?

Display Size is usable area of the screen less readouts. Screen is the Display Size.

Square Inches of Sonar Data Display Area less Readouts:

798c = 12.234 Square Inches
898c = 16.031 Square Inches
998c = 21.312 Square Inches
1198c = 48.156 Square Inches

Plus there is alot more. DUal Frequency HDSI Transdcuer on the 898c. Platinum Capable Mapping, Faster Processor, Direct Ethernet Connection (Doesn't require Pigtail), Larger Screen. I've run both and the 898c is considerable difference when viewing than the 798c. Customizable Split Screen Views, and more.

Don't get me wrong 798c is a nice unit but the 898c is more bang for the buck in my opinion.

I had a 798 and now have a 997 and in my option with the 640 x 640 pixels on the 798 I could see the fish better than I can with the 997 . I never had a chance to view a 898 on the water , $450.00 is a lot of money for 1 1/8" of display , it might be worth it you got the whole 2" more of display. If I had it to do over I would have bought a 1198 instead of the 997 . what does the hd stand for on the transducer?

Hi-Def Side Imaging it's what the 997c, 898c, 998c and 1198c use the HDSI Transducer. The 798c uses the Compact SI Transducer as standard equipment.

The 800kHz and the larger crystals produce more details and crispness of image is what it is talking about. The 898c has as many pixels if not more 480v x 800h as competitors 480 x 640 in a 7" unit. It has plenty to display the data produced by the HDSI transducer. The increased level of detail in the HDSI is above that of the first generation981c and 987c it is to distinguish the difference between the two technologies.

Here is images from an HDSI Transducer on the 1198c (600v x 800h in 10.4" Screen) Competitor is exact same 10.4" screen with 600v x 800h Pixels so if they call it HD Screen then Hummminbird is HD too since they have the exact same pixel count.

Here's the difference of the same structure...

455kHz

800kHz (flipped so you can see the same structure since I turned around and captured it)
