Went with AlvinC from the Riverpark this morning. What a great day. Completely opposite to the tourny yesterday.
We started fishing our favorite bank down past he bend. After catch 5-6 small spots (one one big enough to clean) I hook one around 2 lbs on a torpedo. Got off of course. We fished another 45 minutes or so and caught a few small ones and Bbass came over to see how we were doing. As soon as he got by us I hooked a spot about 1-1.5 lbs. Got off. The very next cast as I was talking to Billy I hooked a toad!!!. This this came up out of the water, shook its head, and threw the pig n jig at me. Had to be 4lbs or better largemouth. If you are going to lose a good one, as least have witnesses (I had 3).
We left there and started fishing banks back toward the Riverpark and caught fish on every spot. I had another good fish (maybe around 3lbs) blow up on torpedo fishing some barge tie ups. We ended up with 22 in the boat and another 5-6 that go off. We had 2 limits for sure with our best 5 weighing around 7 lbs.
4 small largemouth (less than 14")
1 small smallmouth
17 spots
1 large largemouth lost (>4 lbs)
2 large spot lost (>2 lbs)
3-4 small spots lost
The morning was perfect with no wind, no boat traffic, and not hot at all. Bbass and BbassJr tore them up as well. Most fish were caught using (what else) and black/blue jig with a #11 black/blue pork, torpedo, and lizard. I will be have spots for dinner tonight!
