Have any of you ever forgot to do something important? Birthday, anniversity, put the garbage out? Well I forgot something this morning.

OIL!!!!!

Yep. My 115 Merc is toast. We were on the way to the Nuke about 6:30 and the motor just died. I have had this happen before when the gas tank pulls a vaccum so I pumped the bulb (which was soft) and off we went again. After about a minute the engine dies again. That's when it hits me. I forgot the oil. So using my 80lb thrust trolling motor we made it to Harbon Lights. Not open. So we trolled to the back and hit a bait/grocery store for oil. Good to go right?

NOPE!!!!

The thing will run but it is knocking bad. Real bad. And it will not run more than 30 seconds full throttle. Toast!!! So now I am looking into fixing a 10 year old motor or just taking the $2000-3000 grand and putting it toward another boat/motor.

Fishing: We did fish (we were there anyway) at the Nuke for cats. I had 3 good runs but they dropped the bait as soon as I touched the rod. We then putted down to Skull Island boat ramp so my wife could take me to get the truck (at HBSP of course). While waiting on her AlvinC boated a nice 3.5 largemouth on a lizard not 50 feet from the ramp. The fish was in about 4 feet of water in a grass clump.

I am now leaving to meet Jon the Fisherman on the Bar. Wish me luck.

Dang Mike, Why didnt you just go for the prop or something simple? I guess if you are going to tear something up do it right Huh!!!! I know you proablly felt like i did emoVomit . If it was me i would aim for a 22ft Ranger with a 300 on it. emoBigsmile But hey thats just me. emoRolleyes

Looks like a new powerhead is in your future. Ouch!

that really stinks. I know the feeling. I sunk my boat below the dam last october. It took a little while but i found another in my price range.

I was out there and met up with Mike this morning. I hate ot for him. But, it does open up some thinking on a ten year old boat...Fix it? / Sell as is and buy another...hmmmm....Think it through Mike.

Lets go Wed. evening! My treat this time.

emoSorry

Maybe there is a 4-stroke in your future. It's only money... emoBigsmile

My thoughts exactly, Rsimms. That's why I have one now. I would have forgotten about the oil a long time ago and been in the same boat. Sorry that it happened to you MrWhiskers.emoGeezer

I am with you on the 4 stroke....you gotta get one...better gas milage...no oil to add...will pay for itself in the long run!

Sorry to hear that Mr. Wiskers. I lost an engine years ago while fishing. Not a good feeling at all. A top bearing feel down into the engine and got pushed out the side of the engine block. Sold the boat trailer and all to my wifes cousin who replaced the bearings and used J.B. Weld to fix the cracked engine.

Bass Hunter, I gotta hear about the sunk boat. Is the boat still there or did you have to have it pulled out?

Bummer about the motor, Mr. Whiskers...hope you get back on the water soon. I recognize the location in the pic; I've caught several good ones recently on those slimy laydowns by the ramp. Have you tried the weedbed between those two small islands in front of the boat?

That was my first time fishing there. We were only fishing until my wife came to pic me up to go get my truck so we only had about 45 minutes. Looks like a good area that should only get better as the weather cools.

I want to thank everyone for the moral support. I don't think I will be getting a 4 stroke no matter what I decide. Just too expensive and heavy for my little 17 footer. I will have some solution this week and when I do I will let you guys know. I just can't be without a boat for the rest of the fall!!!!!

Mr. Wiskers, my heart goes out to you... extra costs really hurts and slows down the art of fishing.... you have my sympathy... you will return however, and be great once more... Don't let the Madbomber put the hurt on you today....LOL;) ;)

i'm sorry to hear about your motor too mr whiskers, i also had the same thing happen to me several years ago on tellico lake.
