We got on the water at about 6:30 this morning and the first thing I noticed was the water was down about a foot since I had been out on Thursday. We decided to run down to a few sloughs around Sequoyah to start the morning off. There was some top water action but they didn't want a spook or anything on top much. I had one keeper fish on the spook at about 7:00. I was throwing a Secret Weapon buzz bait around some matted grass and had one come up but it did not take it all the way and we couldn't get another top water fish all day. I then started throwing a Wave Worms Tiki Tube the rest of the day along with a buzz bait and I had some pretty good luck on the tube. I ended up catching 2 more keepers on it and I had several more hits but I did not get a good hook set on them. My partner was throwing a small crank bait this morning around the grass and he caught 2 keepers on it and later in the day had some luck on a plastic worm. Overall it wasn't a bad day but with the water dropping over a foot in just a few days and the water still pretty warm there is not much of a top water bite or any bite for that matter

At least you caught a few keepers. Did you try any deep water areas? I think that the good topwater bite is still a month or so away. I guess we'll see. I can't wait for it to take off.

No we stayed in the shallow water to try to find the topwater bite but we didn't really find it. I agree that it is still about a month off..I know I can't wait for it to start.emoCool

I tend to get in a rut of trying to force feed the bass what I want to catch them on rather than going to a bait that is a better choice for the conditions. I love that topwater bite and I'll bet that I go past lots of good fish just trying to get them to come up when I ought to be fishing deeper. I also think that I tend to get used to fishing deep sometimes and miss a shallow bite too. I need to get better at changing tactics quickly and knowing what the fish are telling me is the right way to go. I do frustrate myself frequently.
