I have a 93 Evinrude 150 on my boat and have been having this problem for a year now. When at idle speed the engine just spits and sputters and eventually dies. Sometime its hard to get restarted. It runs great while running, this just occurs at idle speed or in neutral.

Any suggestions????? BTW I have changed plugs and plug wires.

May be a simple repair........ I have seen a few of them where people mess with the enrichener valve and have it in the manual choke position and will flood the engine.

They are 6 idle screws. It may also be varnish in the passages. If you run it on the hose, do you see a lot of black crap run out around the prop and BLACK smoke???

my 93 johnson had the same problem and i finally found i had a small crack on the bright red manual choke knob and it wouldnt tighten down causeing it to flood itself at idle

I have not had an opportunity to run it on the hose yet, I will post once I do so. Unfortunately I am completely ignorant when it comes to working on these motors

Can anyone recommend a shade tree mechanic that can take a look at it for me??

I spoke with the mechanic at pine Harbor & the guy on Bonny Oaks Dr and they basically said that they were not sure until they got into it. Their most likely culpritt was the carbs needed being rebuilt, which cost mucho $$$$

Ok

Thanks man I did nt realize that he was a mechanic

Wrechin I will email you later tonight Gotta get the kids in bed now

I got your email and replied to it. It is hard to determine what is wrong without looking at it. I have many times found it to be something simple. That is the way I like to think!!! SIMPLE first. emoToast
