My front unit suddenly looses GPS contact. It worked great for a few months and then I have intermittent GPS usage. The sonar and SI work great. You turn the unit on and may have GPS service for hours and then suddenly no connection. I get screen messages no interlink connected, the GPS menu is gone. Sometimes it returns quickly and sometimes it takes awhile. Where do I begin tracing the problem. I do not think it is the unit because I switched units with my 1198 and have the same problem. I have separate antennas for each unit.I only have this issue with the bow unit the 1198 on the console works great.

Maybe the connector is going bad. I know that's the one issue with Humminbirds is that the connectors come loose very easily.

You did the cross test so it sounds lika the receiver may be going bad. I would double check the connection and it that doesn't resolve. I would call HB Customer Service and get a new GPS receiver.

Mike, looks like your system is set up with the gps receiver running through a interlink module. Try by-passing the interlink module and connect the gps receiver cable directly to your bow unit. If that fixes it, then it's the interlink or interlink cable/connection. If it doesn't then it's probably the gps receiver.

BTW, I have a new interlink package with module and all cables. You're welcome to try them and see if it takes care of the problem.

A buddy of mine has a 898 and recently had to replace his puck. This is why I bought units with internal GPS antanae.

I have a Humminbird 1198c and I was having some GPS problems. Go to their web site and look for an update for your unit.
