I had the honor to fish with Polo-dog today and I must say that it was a very enjoyable day. Thanks Polo for letting me tag along and watch you catch fish. We probably caught 16-20 catfish today and the bites were sort of slow in coming at first, but it warmed up afterwards. Middle of the day on was pretty good. Most of the fish were caught on drops in 30-40 feet of water. One fish on chicken, all the rest on threadfin shad. Later on, Polo showed me how to use a cast net and caught a few threadfins for my freezer. I might even fish with them.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

All our fish were under 30 pounds today.emoUpsmile emoUpsmile emoUpsmile

Oh the Classic Catfish pose... I love it. NICE channel drumking. I know he was some fun. Just one question.... were you squirtin' those threadfin with the WD40 I see in the picture?

The honor was all mine I assure you DK. I had a great time and I was wondering if either of us knew how/where to catch fish in the early going. I just took a look at the flow data and I'm not so sure that they are correct. There seemed to be little flow on the main channel in the morning but it picked up in the afternoon and that's when the fish started biting. The cats really love those shad! I had thawed and refrozen those 2 week old shad and they would just barely hold together on the hook. After I dropped DK off on the WT dock I could see that there were lots of shad on the surface and decided to catch some more for my cats(blues and channels that is). The bait balls were big and on the surface in the mid creek and I caught lots on three casts of the net. This gave me the idea to call DK later and see if he wanted to go back out and catch some shad as he said earlier that he would like some to freeze. He was a natural at throwing the cast net and we caught a few hundred for him to freeze. All in all it was a great day on the lake. No huge fish but lots of tugs on the line, great fellowship too. We need to get out there again soon.

OK, OK, I admit it...I did not read the recent post about the WD40:( Are you really putting that on your bait?

That was supposed to be a "secret" Richard. WD-40 is my favorite attractant.;) emoGeezer

I would say that those decaying shad were slick enough without the WD40 rsimms. I do however think that there may have been some correlation between the Solunar table and the bite today. What say you DK?

Oh, there's no doubt about it. They were extremely accurate today. We only caught 1 blue and 1 drum before noon. Not going to say who caught the drum but someone's trying to get my title.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

OK Solunar Man... I'm on the water tomorrow (after I pick up some extra WD40). Tell me what your Crystal Ball says? My TVA Soothsayer says the best bite will come from 3 pm on.

DK since you now have several hundred shad in your freezer does it mean you will share with another good fishing buddyemoBigsmile emoBigsmile
Now that you know how to throw the cast net I'll order one and you can show me. If we catch a bunch of the good bait maybe in a year or two we can post up some of them rsimms and drc reports. We just need some practiceemoUpsmile

Mid-day on if they are running any turbines. Wish I was with you, but somebody just has to cut the grass.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

That is a nice channel cat. Is it just me, or does it seem like you guys catch a lot more blues than channel cats? Are channel cats just holding in a different spot than the blues right now? My dad lives on a 250 acre lake back home, and that's all there are, 8-15 lb channel cats. I guess there I had no choice but to catch channels

I guess that I catch 5 or 6 blues to 1 channel. Maybe the areas that I fish, I just dunno?emoScratch Channels fight much harder than the blues, but can't compare in the taste test.emoSmile emoGeezer
