I am in desperate need of someone with a cherry picker or a A frame or some kind of hoisting setup. I need to change my jack plate configuration around. For some reason when my Jack Plate was installed it was installed in a collapsed configuration, and this is a 88' model boat. Both heels of the angle aluminum pointing in toward the transom. This isn't correct. I have about 18" of set back and I need 21", I also think this is the reason my splash well fills up coming off plane and flows into my bilge thru the opening for the control cabling. With the heels pointing in the opposite direction I can achieve this. I would perfer someone with a Johnson/Evinrude engine lifting lug, but I'm sure it can be done in another way if needed. I can do what I need to do without assistance. I just need some way to swing my engine while I change the configuration. I'm just trying to get the boat setup correctly. PM me with a number and I will contact you ASAP. Thank you in advance.

I need to go emoAngler

Re: A little assistance this weekend Please.

I'm thinking you could rent what you need at a tool rental shop or auto parts store, i.e. Advanced, Auto Zone, etc. Good luck with your task.

Re: A little assistance this weekend Please.

I have never done this...so take this with a grain of salt.

You still will need something to stabilize the engine, but not necessarily to raise it.

Lower trailer jack wheel all of the way down it will go. Block under the now raised engine. hook up your stabilizer. raise the jack wheel. Your engine's weight will move to the block. Remove bolts. do your jackplate swap/adjustment. Put everything back. Lower the trailer jack wheel and you should be good.

As I said, I have never done this, but have read about it a number of times. Hope this helps...good luck richg99

Re: A little assistance this weekend Please.

I have done this several times in the past. Couse I had a lifting eye for my motor. Tossed a chain over a beam on my deck and lifted the motor off. Easy.

RE: A little assistance this weekend Please.

If you are wanting to stop the water from getting into the splash well I would try putting kids toy balls in the jack plate. I have 5 in mine and it lifted the rear 2". Some people use boat bumpers or fill with styrofoam. 18"-21" is a lot of setback. You will need a bottom and top plate on the jack plate to keep the balls in place.

OK, I need some advice. I changed my Jack Plate from basically a 2" set back to a 4" setback, It is a 4" jack plate to begin with. I'm not sure of the motor height, I haven't measured it since I made the change, but I will. I have been trying to improve the ol' girls hole shot for about 2 seasons now. When I bought the boat it was set up 2" setback from the jack plate, 18" total from the 13" built into the hull and 2" allowed by the motor mount and 2" in the jack plate and a couple inches from the angle of the transom. It also had a 13.5 x 27 Shooter prop with out an exhaust ring. She had a lot of prop slippage with out the exhaust ring. Now with that said, on to my dilemma to date. After I changed my jack plate now when I throttle up, the bow heads to the sky, and hole shot is more like a slow ride on the low end of a teeter totter. She just basically slow rolls out until on plane. I still have the 4 blade shooter, that I'm thinking of trying again, I know 4 blades have more lift. I'm now running a 14.5 x 24 Raker with what I think are 7/16" aeration ports in it and about 21.5" setback. It just seems to me that RPM's don't come up like you would think they should, prop aeration issue, maybe? Any help would be appreciated Boat description below.

Only pic I could find if this helps.

you need a better pic, no one can tell anything about you setup in that pic. you need a current pic and measurement of you center propshaft to the bottom of you boat. the very bottom, not the step . these guys are tryin to help, your just not givein much for them to go off from

Well I guess I'll turn to scream n fly for help I guess.

I was being facetious about Scream N Fly 275prostratos emoSmile

I did figure out this morning that I was way too high after I switched the jp around to it's 4" config. I won't have a good measurement until I have the chance to put the boat in the garage on a level floor. I know I dropped it at least 2.5" this morning and I think I have about an 1/2" left in my jp adjustment and motor is in it's highest of the 4 mounting locations (lowest motor height). I do know however, as best as I could tell though, the cavitation plate is about 1 3/8" above the pad, not the step, but I know that's not what is important. I have also figured I'm going to have to open up the prop vents to get my rpm's up on holeshot. The rpm's come up slowly, or did at the previous height. It was never strong coming out of the hole with the new 24p I put on it last year, and wasn't much better with the 13.5 x 27p shooter with the exhaust ring in it. Now that I think about it, with out the exhaust ring it had a decent I'm guessing holeshot with the shooter I was just not used to the boat and thinking something was wrong because it would blow out at about 4200 on take off. Even with the way the boat was setup when I bought it I was only getting about 56 mph gps, so I began looking for the mid 60's like everyone else seemed to be getting. I'm getting there slowly but surly. Sometimes I think I spend more time on getting this thing setup right than I do emoAngler

Oh btw, the step is 12" deep to the transom, from the pad, 4" jp, 2" allowance for the motor mounting, and maybe 2" allowance for the angle of rise of the transom. Prop is 14.5 x 24p Raker 6mm venting ports I belive. emoThumbsup

If you had a Bullet I could help you. I don't have much experience with your rig. Since you have made major changes to your engine height, keep an eye on your water pressure when you take your boat out for the first time. I know this may sound stupid but try taking everything out of your boat except your safety equipment. If your holeshot still sucks you have a motor issue or you have the wrong pitch prop or you may need to install wedges to your jackplate. I can tell for sure because I haven't driven your boat. If your hole shot is fine with the boat unloaded you may simply have your boat overloaded with tackle or you may need to move the load around in the boat. I know I am really bad about hoarding tackle in my boat. When I first got my current boat it ran great. After about 6 months my holeshot sucked and I lost about 5 mph on top end. I had the motor tuned up and still had the same problem. I took the boat back to the factory to see if they could help. The first thing they did was have me unload my tackle. I filled up an outboard motor box and the bed of my truck. emoRedface I had over 250 lbs of plastics, 35 Plano boxes and 21 fishing rods. We took the boat to the lake. It jumped out of the hole and ran way faster than I wanted to go. Since then, I completely on load my boat twice a year. I still carry more tackle than most Bullet owners but I do have a tackle sickness. emoLaugh If you are still having an issue with water coming over the back deck when coming off plane, get you some medium sized boat bumper that inflate. Place them in the jack plate. I have two bumpers turned sideways in my jackplate. My plate has two large holes in each side of the plate. I let the ends of the bumpers stick out of the holes in the plate. I did have to deflate the bumpers to install them. Then I simply inflated them with a bicycle tire pump. Before I did this, if I came off plane fast, the back wash would come over the top of my engine. The wave crashed half way onto the back deck. Now the back was doesn't even make it to the splash well. I hope some of this makes sense. If you need help send me a PM and I will be glad to meet you at the lake.

Thanks TJ, I really don't believe its a tackle issue. I have about 8 rods and maybe a dozen small Plano single boxes in the forward storage compartments, I have a tackle compulsion as well just not that advanced emoSmile My 2 live wells, 2 24 gal. fuel tanks and 3 29 series batteries are in the rear of the boat. I rarely have more than 24 gal in the boat, 12 gal on each side and the tanks are right behind the seats.

Just some reference points. According to the internet, a group 31 battery weighs around 75 lbs. A gallon of gas or water 8 lbs

12 gallons of gas - 100 lbs
3 batteries - 225 lbs
2 live wells = ????
Fisherman ???

You might consider moving batteries and other gear forward to balance things out.

On my little tinny, I can fill a 5 gallon bucket with water (42 lbs) and move it forward or to amidships (tied down well) just to check balance issues. In your case, that would be adding even more weight.

Mr. S if that is all you carry it doesn't sound like a load issue. When you go to the water take the wrenches you need to adjust the jack plate height. Run it as high as you can and still maintain enough water pressure on your gauge. I am not sure about the correct pressure for your motor. Without seeing your setup I don't know what is wrong. Once you get your boat out of the hole how does it run? The same as before you changed the plate around? What RPM is the motor turning? When you trim the motor down does it tuck under or to a negative angle?

richg99, It was planing ok before the change. 2" more of setback. I know now I need to open up the exhaust vents on the prop rpm's are slow to build coming out of hole even before the change. BulletTJ, I always carry a small bag of tools with me. With older boats you never know. And I carry my Tow Boat US card with me. emoSmile

Update: After lowering the engine to the lowest mounting holes and opening up the exhaust aeration ports 1/16" she comes up a little better and turns the 24 Raker at about 5700 r's. I'm going to raise the jp a 1/4" and open the aeration ports another 1/16" to get the r's up on the hole shot to about 4k, its building r's slowly to about 2800 then she runs up to about 3800 pretty quickly. I still couldn't get 50 mph gps out of her, I wonder if the 24p Raker has anything to do with that? emoScratch Thoughts?
