Sept/oct is one of the best times to throw it. Just look when it came on the scene at guntersville when Paul Elias destroyed the field with in october 2011 with 102 lbs of bass. I've done good with it every month out of the year but hate throwing it b/c I tore my labrum throwing it in a winter catch TX after a heavy chest workout the night before.
I agree that Fall is the time, but I have actually caught my only 3 fish on one cast late winter one year when the CFF Tournament Committee had a tournament on Nickajack. I keep one tied on, but throwing it is like doing a set of bench presses...
Shh don't tell all the secrets! Lol.. I throw mine on a Dobyns Savvy 735 frog rod with 65lb Braid. You can tear some schooling largemouth and white bass up right now with it! Go with the 5 arm bladed version, but only use 3 hooks.. dummy rig the others. I like it better than 3 arm.
Thanks again for all comments. The only one I've thrown as mentioned before was the 3 armed one (built at Soddy Custom). Based on some comments here I may need to tie one back on my line and I may even try the 5 arm RRB32. As far as it feeling like a bench press Patrick..."no pain no gain” and I hope there is a lot to gain. Once I get back out there and give it another try, I will post either feast or famine.
