It was a great opening morning. Ol BentRod had the honey hole, I got stuck with the meat yard. emoBigsmile
Rick had seen a really good buck ust a few hundred yards from one of the stand I had up, he was dying to go back and I went to the sand thats been producing doe's really well.
As Rick was walking up to his spot he spooks a doe, and 5 seconds later a 7 point walks out, BLAM, first blood.
He gets setup and the shooting all around us commences, the deer paid dearly this day in Bedfod county. emoLaugh
About two hours in, I see big floppy ears coming my way through the brush, I texted Rick they were coming and when the first stepped into a semi clear lane, I neck shot her with the 300 WSM, she didnt move. Deer EXPLODED all over behind her running in circles. Less that 5 minutes later a doe was sniffing the dead deer, and I tried another neck shot, no good, must have hit some brush. More running in circles and when one stopped for a second, I tried to shoot through brush for a body-shot, another brush saved deer steak. emoTskTsk
That was at 9:10, about 9:35, I hear a noise and there is a doe walking right to my stand about 10 yards away! I had to shoot her almost straight down left handed. She ran 30 yards and piled up 5 feet from the first one. Rick then texts me that he just had another 7 point come 20 feet from him. It was like a deer zoo this AM!
WE waited will just after 10 and started getting down, while doing so Rick sees another doe, and drops her. Not 3 minutes later an 8 point runs up the hill and sniffs on her for at least ten minutes while Rick is texting to get down there and try for a shot. It saw me as I was trying to get eyes on it and busted out of there.
Thats what I call wacking-n-stackin the deer. It was a heck of a gut job, but nice to see the pile of meat for our families to enjoy.
The bg doe was by far the biggest I have ever shot, she was bigger than Ricks 7 point, she to the right of the buck in the pics. Id bet she was every bit of 130 lbs.
