A buddy of mine gave me an Abu Garcia Black Max reel that has a flipping switch. He didn't know how to use it. I've looked online and have not seen a "How to" in regard to the flipping switch. There's a video, but I can't get it to play.

Does anyone know how to use the flipping switch properly? Any help would be great.

Thanks!

When you put the switch in flip mode it wont let the thumb bar lock in place. When you remove your thumb afer flipping the thumb car comes up by its self.

WITH THE FLIPPING SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE THUMB BAR DOWN UNTIL THE BAIT HITS ITS TARGET AND WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR THUMB OFF YOU ARE READY TO SET THE HOOK WITHOUT ENGAGING THE REEL===BASICALLY YOU NEVER HAVE TO REEL UNTIL YOU WANT TO MAKE ANOTHER PITCH OR BRING IN A FISH...IF YOU DO TRY A STANDARD CAST YOU WILL KNOW REAL QUICK IF IT'S ON OR OFF BECAUSE IT WILL SOUND LIKE YOU TORE THE GEARS OUT OF IT.

Ditto what skeeter said. I have two Abu-Garcia graphite low profile flipping reels with several switches on them.. One is my worn fishing reel for the accurate casting it offers, and the other is mounted on a retractable Abu-Garcia Black max flipping stick.. I have had them since new from way back then. I ain't giving them up.

Great info fella's! My new year resolution is to learn to flip and pitch and this new to me reel will play a big part of it now.
