Dad and I plan on adding a backseat to our boat, it only has the one front Fishing deck with the swivel chair and the driver's and passenger seat. There is a space behid the two riding seats where another chair could fit. Not having done this before, I am assuming it would be best to cut the carpet before screwing down the new pedistal. Also, what would be the best srews to use, not just wood screws. Since this is not up on a deck, what height would you suggest, and is there a place locally where I can make the purchase or would getting a pedistal online be my best choice.

Me and a friend had a similar situation years ago with an old yazoo alum. boat. We built a deck for the back of the boat before installing the seat. It was easy and came out great. Used treated plywood, marine carpeting, all stainless steel screws, and the seat and pedestal was bought at wally world.

Great Idea, but this being an older fiberglass boat It might block access to the Gas tank and batteries. I could make it removable. I'll Have to pnder this.

Wally World or Boaters World will have what you need and Boaters World has a couple of knowlegable sales people that can help you too.

If you use a wide base pedestal that sets on top you should not have a problem. However what I would prefer is the pedestal base that screws directly to the floor and has a recessed pin bushing that extends below the floor. That type will allow you to remove the seat and post if needed for space. That type base requires that you have the clearance for the pin bushing under the floor.
