I had a good morning fishing. Crappie were hitting jigs & Minnows in 3-4 feet of water. I used Black & Blue jigs. Fished about 18 in from a float. I managed to tangle a few seconds with a Gar about 3 feet long, till he cut my line. I also had a huge bass break my line as well.I figured the bass was 6 lbs or better. He just looked that big. I was getting ready to switch from minnows to a jig and man did he hit it. He came up from underneath and jumped up out of the water and dissappeared with a hugh splash. And as fast as came out of the water he also broke my 4 lb test line with ease. All in al I caught 12 keeper crapie & 4 bass (that I was able to land). I kept the crappie and put the bass back. I must have caught 20 crappie that where 9 inches. But the 12 keepers will be dinner to night.

Where were you fishing, jwateacher? I only target bass, so I'm not going to steal your spot. Rather, I was going to suggest one. Have you ever fished the two small coves immediately upriver of Powell Slough? They are loaded with submerged brushpiles and bedding crappie.

I dont mind telling there are several docks on around the creek. A friend of mine showed me where submereged brush piles are and I fished them. There easy to find. Just start at the mouth where Agency creek goes into the Hawissee bare right and stay close to the bank and let your sonor do the work for you. Several places the cover is deep others are in no more than 3 feet of water. I usually cast beyond the brush real bank in slowly and once the jig is over the cover. They'll hit if they are there. If the jigs don't get any action I'll use live tuffies. There are even brush piles in the main channel at 8 - 10 feet. Thats where the biggest ones usually hang out. I don't have a GPS to pin point there location. But once you discover them you'll remember the next time. Out of courtesy if I see anyone fishing from the dock I just ask them if they mind me fishin their docks when they are noy using them. No one has ever said no but I still ask.
