I'm thinking of getting a airbrush kit ,to play around and paint some older and wore out crankbaits, also maybe paint tha spinnerbaits I make for my self.Any suggestions. What do I need to get, without paying out a small fortune. Thanks for any suggestions emoScratch

Get a gravity feed brush. Iwata makes a good one. Might also check these folks - http://www.buyairbrushes.com/. Best prices I've seen and their stuff has some good reviews from painters on other boards I visit. Otherwise, look at hobby stores in your area. You will, of course, need a compressor with a regulator.

Go cheap till you know for sure your going to be doing it a lot.</p>

I started with this $10 one from Harbor Freight. The super basic design actually makes it harder to use for anything other than a sold coat over the whole lure. Its pretty spitty and spattery and the air flows 100% of the time.

I very quickly graduated to this $15 one and used the air hose from the cheaper kit. ($20 list price, almost always on sale for $15)

I've been real happy with it. Im on about my 5th batch of lures and my skill has yet to outgrow it to the point where I feel like I would need a nicer one

You may want to check out Hobbie Lobby if one is near you. They should have kits and maybe even compressors too.

The harbor freight models http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95810 is the I use for most of my crankbaits .. its as good as most of the name brands low end models and dirt cheap.. once you decide if its for you the air brushing or you are going to do higher volume then move up to one of the higher end air brushes check out bear air http://www.bearair.com/ for all your airbrushing needs . but between harbor freight and hobby lobby you will have all you need to decide if you want to do more precision work or just a handful of baits every once in awhile

Dont waste your money on Paasche, aztec, iwata, etc ... starting out lower price brush like the harbor freight above will do fine.. just make sure you thoroughly clean any brush you get every time you are done.. dried paint will cause you most of your problems.. dont use any pants except air brush paints . water based is all you need .. once you seal them with epoxy clear coat .. they will last as long as you want.

Oh and you dont need a special airbrush compressor .. any small compressor will do the job, just use a water filter, and drain the tank every day. you can even use canned air made for painting or buy C02 in refillable 10 gallon cans similar to a propane tank at a welding gas supplier.. and its quite if spraying in your house

I use Createx, but you must put a coat of epoxy on all the paints, wont hold up without a protective coat over the paints
