My buddy let me use his 7'6" all star jig rod the other day and I was impressed. I very rarely throw jigs b/c lack of experience and knowledge on how to use them, he actually taught me quite a few things and I enjoyed it. I was amazed at how sensitive the rod was and how much it helped me when throwing a bait that I never really use. Maybe all the name brand rods are fairly similar but I really enjoyed using this rod. Thanks to Josh Burns for sharing some knowledge with me.

try a matel 3'6'' Snoopy combo with matching reel. perfect action for flipping!

I like my 2 old All Star rods. I was told that the original company was bought out so the newer rods may not be the same. Some of us can't afford the more exoensive rods from G'Loomis, et al.

I have eight of them, six casting rods and two spinning rods. The oldest one is around fifteen yrs. old and still works like a new one.

I'm working on going completely to All Stars. I love mine. Loomis I'm sure are good, but I don't want to pay that much for a rod. Am I at a disadvantage? Maybe, but do I care? no..

<font color="#6600ff" size="3">next time you are up this way, you need to come by the house....I just might make you a good deal on some really good All Star rods......like maybe they are 19 years old but they are from the old company and still in very good shape....you know cause I don't ever catch over my limit of ONE (1)....if you know what I mean???? Do you really like those all star rods? They aren't supposed to be any good since shakespeare bought them. Maybe they just don't sponsor a bunch of pro staffers so they just don't get good press. You could easily have G Loomis with your money. Of course Shimano owns them. Crucials are good rods for the money.

High $$$$ rods don't help put fish in the boat for me. I've seen too many guys go out & try to make up for time on the water by throwing alot of $$$ at the fish. I'm not talking about any one person (Lance) so please don't take offense. This doesn't apply to you because you catch alot of realy good fish most of the time.Just sayin that you can get them with a $14.99 Ugly-stick if you work you bait right. On the flip side of this, I got a Lews from Davo the other day & I'm in love with this rod. It's all what you get use to for me.

I agree 2jigs, I believe the main difference to me is the length compared to what bait your using. Most of my rods are the quantums from walmart, $20. I 7.6 ft. rod I used with my buddy was the first rod I have really used that long and it does make a difference throwing a jig at night.

I really like the new Carrot Stixs they are extremely light and sensitve. I just purchased the 7'6 flippin stick can't wait to break it in. $140.00 and a lifetime warranty. Not cheap but not as much as a G-loomis

Get a custom build and you'll forget about that mass produced stuff. Being able to sit with a rod builder and discuss what bait you'll throw, what the weight of the lure will be, what line weight/type will be, how long you want the handle to be, what colors you want, what length, etc ...

It adds up to one awesome experience and you'll pay less than you might think for a rod built for YOU and not Tom, Dick, or Harry.

Give Fat Al, Coach, or John Miles a call and thank me later.

yes sir when it comes to flippin i love my 7'6" big flippin all-star.....but you look thruogh my rods you'll find everything from allstars. brownings, shimanos, and even basspro line....would love to have all matching set of g-loomis but, would the fish care? emoScratch

another flippin stix that im very interested in is Powells....Grants SGs carries them for a fair price...

i am interested in finding a rod to flip finesse jigs w/ though..??...

Enjoy the flippin it is a ball crossin those fishes eyes

P.S. allstar was bought out by berkley i believe... over the counter warrenty is no good now you must pay for the shipping and send $20 not bad but the wait was near 3 weeks.... but when it was return it was the same rod better eyes differnt name (titanium went to Platinuim) no big deal they have just changed alittle emoSmile

I own all sorts of rods. I love my custom rods ( Coach's, and Fat Albert's). I also own a Kistler ( it's ok), but I love my G-Loomis Mossyback!! Light as a feather and strong! I've owned the carrot sticks ( they are ok at best), and tried a few All Stars. I just go by feel. What feels the best when I am using a particular lure. I don't care what brand my rod is, as long as it feels good and is sensitive.

A fishing rod is nothing more than a tool. A fisherman is like a mechanic. We have different tools for different tasks. I believe that quality tools will help to shorten the learning curve. If a mechanic uses junk Chinese/Taiwan wrenches he is going to round off bolts and nuts and break the wrenches. Whereas if he uses something like Snap-On or MAC tools he will be able to do the job at hand much easier. Then he can concentrate more on gaining experience. I believe the same holds true for fishing equipment. Higher quality rods are lighter and more sensitive than cheapos. They cut down on the fatigue of a long day on the water while at the same time giving a novice a slight edge in detecting strikes. Steve is right that there is no substitue for time spent on the water. We don't all have time to spend 100 plus days a year on the lake though.
Allstar rods used to be one of the best. Even now they are still better than a lot of the junk that is out there. I had an Allstar flipping stick for 15 years and it was a first class tool. I don't bass fish anymore so Mr. Foodsaver now has the rod. I reckon he likes it because he has not asked for a refund. :)

Actually Shakespeare owns Allstar. I'm like fishinvol. It is hard to beat a G Loomis mossyback in the jig and worm series. The tapers are as close to perfect as you can get. I think I paid $225 for which seems steep but I will use them for many years. Plus if it breaks you have a new one in a few days. Part of the high price is that warranty.
