OK, out of the ridiculous amount of traffic we get on this site, surely someone has tried them all. I'd like some opinions, preferably based from "on-the-water" trials, as to which brands are the best and why. Basstrix, Poor Boy, Money Minnow, Powerbait Hollow Belly, Phantom Shad, Strike King Shad-a-licious, and on and on and on............

I threw some of the money minnows for stripers a couple weeks ago, and never got the first hit. WAAAAAY too expensive to use IMHO at $8.00 for four of them!

Sorry I cant be of more help. Spur

Thanks, Spur...and ditto on the Money Minnow. I did reeeeally well on the Basstrix and when I needed more I opted for the Money Minnow, which was readily available locally. They are stiff and lack the natural swimming motion of the Basstrix, hence, no biters for me.

The shadalicious has unreal action.... i used them below nickajack and caught a nice skripa. I would imagine they would be deadly on deep post spawn bass.

I'll second that. Good looking bait!

The one good fish I got in Mud Creek the day before our Gville tournament was on a bass magic. I'm going to work on a hand pour knock-off here shortly, the prices on all of these things are stupid. I'm not sure that the hollow body thing is anything more than a gimmick, they can definitely make the section leading back to the tail thicker and still get good action out of them. The claim is the fish hold on longer and you get better hook-ups because the body collapses.

I've been trying the Lucky Strike and I can't get the tail action going when I'm slowly cranking it. I've had one good hit, but none in the boat yet. I've only thrown it for a total of maybe an hour.

Are you guys ripping it,slow swiming it or what?

The Berkley Hollow Body has been producing well for me on Loudon. Best fish to date is a 5.8 smallmouth. I have also caught fish on the Money Minnow. Both baits swim well with a 1/4 oz. weighted hook. I am currently using a 6/0 Owner wide gap w/ the DOA crimp-on weights. Most of the shad-imitating colors have worked for me. They are not "magic" baits, but are definitely a good tool to add to the box. I, too, will be looking for some less expensive, locally produced knock-offs.
