Well I was warned that Allatoona was not called the dead sea for nothing, but still had to try. To sum it up there is hard and soft mud bottom on the whole lake, no structured except dropoff and points, people everywhere on boats, jet skis, tubes and the sort making it hard to fish main lake points and humps. No fish, will not be the top on my list to revisit again. I got 2 or 3 hits on a dropshot then resorted to trying to catch bream, couldn't even catch a decent bream. Not a total loss though it helps me re-think how lucky we are to have fisheries in the great state of TN that we do, most of the time we take it for granted.

Have to agree with you webfoot. But you have to remeber that Allatoona is the playground of Atlanta. So is Lanier.
Try some of the mountain lakes this time of year and I think you may be suprised at the difference it makes. Allatoona has turned into a playground instead of a place to fish.

Hey there is alot of brush and stuff there . I fished alot during the winter with my new partner . He lives about 20 minutes from there . He fishes it alot year round. You need to go in the winter you can see all kind of stuff there . It is just like any other lake the more you go to that lake the better it can be . So dont give up on the dead sea I mean Allatoona emoLaugh

Yea, Allatoona is a lake that you can fish more and more, and learn more and more about, and you will eventually find where the fish are at, and will start catching some of the big spots they have there. The largemouth fishing isn't bad either.

I have heard that it's a tough place to fish but from what I've heard if you fish the headwaters in the rivers/creeks that it's the place to be. The main lake as you say is the Atlanta playground.

Well I can say that I do enjoy a challenge, and I will probably return just so I try to conquer the beast. What I will do is research a lot more and do a lot more homework before I go. I am sure there is some good fishing in the lake but where I was there was nothing, except for mud. I spoke with a couple of guys at a dock and they said that the lake was very hard to fish for a newby unless the fish were chasing minnows. You never know I might move to Georgia just to be closer, not..............
