any of you guys with aluminum boats ever take them with you down to florida to hunt up inshore species? if so is there something I would need to do to counteract the saltwater on the aluminum?

Saltwater won't bother the aluminum at all... at least not in my experience. However, unless you have a galvanized trailer, be sure and rinse it off GOOD after dropping it in saltwater. The saltwater is bad news on non-galvanized trailers! It's also a good idea to run fresh water through your motor after use in saltwater. I wouldn't necessarily do it everyday, unless you've got a hose convenient to where you park the boat. But if I was there for 2-3 days I always made a point to take a hose fitting and find some freshwater to pump through it after final day's use.

Before you go spray down any exposed metal with a silicon solution. If water or air can get inside your crowal be sure to take it off and spray the inside real good. When you get back home go to a ramp and soak your trailer unless it is galvanized or aluminum. Also, take the crowal off and spay the moter off with freash water. I do this every time I go, and I go alot. There are also places you can put in in freash water and run to brackish or salt water, that way when you run back out you can run freash through moter, and want have to worry about your trailer. It it easy to do at most places. Where are you going I may can be of some assistance? One more thing, the best place to get the silicon is at fish and fun.

oh i am just in the planning stage we are not gonna take a beach vacation this year but I think we will try to go next year. Where should I go?

That is a easy one, St. George Island, You can get a place on the beach or bay side, I suggest if you are taking family like I do, get a condo on the beach. Then while the family is enjoying the beach and pool, you my friend can One fish the bay behind the Island or You can go to Apalachicola five miles away and turn by the school and go up to the Apalachicola river boat ramp and put in freash water. Which is what I do when I go. You can fish the drains there for Redfish, trout, sheephead, and even flounder, or you can run up the river and bass fish. The bream fishing is unbeleavable which is fun for the kids. You let me know when you want to go, I will hook you up. I have made many friends down there and I can get information and tell you exactly what time of day and where to go. When I say time it has to do with the tides. I went during spring break and caught a 27 inch Red and several trout in the four pound range. I probable caught a hundred trout in a couple of hours the last evening there. I have been to Venice and Lafyette La. and the big bend area in Forida is better for bigger trout, and I can find Redfish alot easier in Florida than Lousianna. Beware about starting this type of fishing, I wish I had never started doing it. I am now a saltwater addict.
