This isn't really a political post; it just seemed like the most appropriate place for it to go. I drive all over North Georgia and East Tennessee for work and I have noticed probably a dozen road signs that say "American Reinvestment and Recovery Act - Putting America back to work". The signs are always accompanied by orange barrels as if there is about to be road work. However, it's been several months since I've started seeing these, but I have yet to see the first person actually working in these areas. If anyone has done any work at all, it isn't noticeable. I’m not complaining or anything, but does anyone know what the deal is with these areas? Are there plans to actually do something, or are they just there to be seen?

The work on these roads might be in the planning stages, making plans, drawing up blueprints, buying up property to make some changes, etc.

I am in the process of dealing with some of the projects for the US Forest Service in the state of SC. It is really a lot of working and guidelines associatated with these funds. In a nutshell " the funds are obligated to put people back to work who have lost their job doing some major projects." It is a very time consuming ordeal. Tuat is why you are not noticing any actions.

You can't do the work without the signs and barrels, if a private contractor was doing the work and all the work is being done with private contractors, the signs and barrels are a must, look at any road work, plenty of signs and barrels.

Doc, I understand the need for the barrels if there is work being done. However, most of the areas that I have noticed have had barrels out for months with no visible progress... I just seems like they are meant to be seen and that's all

Twilson, did they do that one recently? I live just up the road and haven't noticed any changes. By the way, I'm talking about the barrels at the 27 / 27 bus Junction, not the stuff going on in downtown. I think they are two totally different projects.

They have been working on it over the last two weeks. It is all the sae project they are paving from the Bypass all the way through town to the other end of the Bypass.
