Aqua Services is only doing what they are hired for and allowed to do. They are only following the new T.D.E.C. regulations for applying herbicides.
My concern is that Private Lakeshore owners and TVA are the ones being allowed to make the decision by our State to treat our water with herbicides and then not post warning signs in areas that these treatments have been done.
TVA and Private Lakeshore owner do not have the authority or right to regulate water pollution. It is the States responsibility to monitor and make decisions on the need for use of herbicides in our water system.
It is the State’s responsibility for deciding that treatments are needed and safe to do, based on water quality, use, and actual health of the water in these areas before allowing anyone to just dump herbicides in the water because it is considered unsightly.
Rivers that are navigable, for title purposes, are owned by the states, and "held in trust" for the public. It does not seem so in this case.
If this concerns you, please take the time to contact one of your State Representatives and express your concerns about the new T.D.E.C. permitting process.
