I'm really happy to know this Volunteer State cougar (or cougars) is/are still alive and hanging around. This is the first confirmed sighting in 2016, since there were multiple sightings in 2015. Biologists however say they won't get overly excited about such sightings, until they can confirm a "breeding population" in Tennessee. I sure hope I live long enough to see one myself in person.

They are beautiful animals. But you have to respect them. Fighting a house cat is bad enough. I can't imagine having to fight on of those.

I agree Richard. It would be an exciting, probably once in a lifetime happening to see one in the wilds of Tennessee with the hope it didn't see me. I surely can't out run or out climb this animal. Advantage cougar!

With as many sighting reports as we have heard over the years and now some actual trail cam pictures, I think it is safe to say there are more in Tennessee than one or two. I too would be happy for them to live in Tennessee in wild areas.

I think you may be able to come down here in Georgia and take your kitty home.. have had 2 spotted around Lafayette in the last couple of weeks.. but I have a couple of recipes I wanted to try out.... ; )

Catoosa County police were going door-to-door last week at the Waters Road entrance to Hidden Ridges to warn people that a cougar was in the area and had killed two dogs. The game warden confirmed the tracks at a new construction site adjacent to the subdivision.

I am pretty sure I observed one in Georgia and am glad officials are finally agreeing with the sightings. For years the answer would be "no way because they are not here". People should have said If they are not here then you won't mind us shooting them will you? Then it's a different story.

So are you against hunting?

Cougars would create a more healthy deer population as they will hunt the weaker and diseased animals which we have plenty of.

They are very reclusive and will evade people and folks out hunting as much as possible. There is no reason for any of us to fear them.

They are in Lincoln county also. Have seen two different ones in different ends of our county.i don't share you excitement for them though we lost two calves to one.

As a person who grew up on a farm, I do understand. But we sometimes lost calves to other reasons too. Hopefully, their will programs to reimburse farmers for their loses when this happens.

i would like to see one in the wild and have no problem with them being in the same woods i am in unless it makes a threat toward my 10 year old then i will have a big problem with it and would have no second thoughts of pulling the trigger on one just my 2 cents

Agreed. You should have the right to protect yourself and your 10 year old. But I think we all have to be more concerned with online predators (pedophilia) and people more than any animal.

I have worked with cougars both in captivity and the wild, and although one has to respect them, they are not evil.
