I was re-adjusting the shift linkage (trial and error, mostly error) on my older Johnson and started lubricating fittings, etc, when the prop caught my eye. Something just didn't look right. It was LOOSE! The cotter pin was missing and the nut had backed halfway off of the shaft. Looks like I had nearly left a rather small but expensive bit of stainless steel catfish structure in the lake to join the myriad of other (expensive) items that have left my possession while on the boat! Never had this one happen, although I suppose a 24 year old cotter pin (2 for 78 cents) might ought to have been changed with at least one of my prop rebuilds (I've had many). Unfortunately, I'm the Bprice that changed the prop each time and didn't replace the pin with a new one! emoBang Another lesson re-learned at my rather advanced age. I sure do get tired of having to re-learn stuff! Hope this helps some of you!!!! emoDoh
