Another good white bass morning 7-28-2006

We had another good morning of white bass catching on the chick this morning. This time I had Drumking with me. We managed to catch over 20.They came on a variety of lures today. Spoons. popin' striper flies, silver buddies and soft plastics which Drumking used and caught the most and the biggest fish on. The bite today was over before 9:00 a.m. and although the fish jumped some more they didn't hit what we offfered. We tried catfishing for a little while but their bite was off too. We didn't boat a catfish at all. We did however see a guy catch a few blues on chicken liver anchored and fishing on the bottom.

Cheez, I had another enjoyable morning with you. We had a good time in spite of the TVA boat that came up river about 1/4 throttle and with 300 yards on either side of about 10 boats who had the white bass surrounded and weaved his way between all those boats and right through the middle of schooling white bass and put them down for a while. I wished that I knew someone who carried a little weight in TVA. Somebody ought to tie those two jerks up to a tree and preached to them until they repented.

We also caught a few largemouth that were under the white bass. I landed 1 keeper and had another jump off at the boat as I was reaching down to lift him in the boat.

I noticed that the small 1" threadfin shad were about 2.5 to 5 feet down on the graph and that the bass schooling on top were sort of small. I was using a 3/32 oz jig with a 2 1/2" pearl swimming plastic minnow bait and letting it sink about 4 seconds and retrieving it slowly in order to catch the larger fish. It seemed to work about as well as anything else that we tried. The bass were fun on light tackle. Light action rods, 4 lb. test line.

Wow, that does sound like fun. I need to get up there sometime this summer. I really enjoy fishing out in front of the Nuke! There always seems to be something interested in biting out there.
