Instead of bumping our gums on here one way or the other, why not email all of our fine senators and congressmen and tell them the same things you are saying on here. Tell em to get off their duffs and earn their money and do what they were elected to do or just do something, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. We are wasting our time talking to one another about all of the world's problems, we are peons, talk to the top or close to it. Have you ever noticed what kind of response you get from say a wallyworld clerk about a problem then go to the manager or district manager about your problem, the higher ups will get it solved pronto but the clerk will just shrug their shoulders and say they just work here, they don't make policy, if your inquiry isn't solved by the manager/district manager, email or call headquarters and i will guaruntee you that you will get results, I have done it many times and it works. One of our members on this site just done what I am talking about, about getting an insurance company to fix his motor, he went to the top and he got results.

How many responses to letters from my senators and congressmen would you like for me to post Doc? I think I can find some that I have not deleted. They are all politically correct answers and in a form letter. They just put my name on the top and shoot them to me. That is why I "bump my gums" on here and lots of other places. To get folks fired up to do something about things.

Good post

Good post

Me too. I sent several letters when the original bailout was being proposed (under GW. Bush). What I received was a nice form letter reply. Of Course this was to Bo Watson and Corker who were opposed to it as well.

The hard thing is when you send a letter telling a representative or senator that you DO NOT agree with they way they are leaning. Then you get a letter "Dear Mr. ...... I understand your concern for this matter. I want you to know that I am giving this issue much deliberation and thought, blah, blah blah." I think at this point, the only way people are going to listen is if they start seeing 1000's of people showing up angry at town hall meeting and "Tea Parties" etc. The grass roots methods tend to be more effective.

Maybe they should create a stimulus bill to allow all Americans who wish to fly to Washington and sit on the steps of the House and Senate buildings. I mean, it is our "right" to be heard, isn't it??

I write my Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions on the subjects of Cap and Trade and Health Care Reform. I have been surprised that they have actually responded to my specific questions (or one of their staffers). Its getting hot in Huntsville, as Senator Sessions Huntsville town hall was full 30 minutes before starting.

I have also done the same with my Representative Parker Griffith, however his staff and their response have been less than impressive. I have recieved the "Check our website" answer to my questions. Also, he is not having any Town Halls on his recess. However, many Huntsvillians have been having town halls of their own outside his office in Downtown Huntsville. He is a Blue Dog Democrat, and is a Medical Doctor as well... I hope he sticks with his views as he lays out on his website, which seems to be in opposition of the current Health Care Reform plan. http://griffith.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=139&sectiontree=116,139

Doc and Cheez bring up great points by the way. Also another way to make a difference in accordance with your particular views is schedule a meeting with your Representative. This is your constitutional right to do so. Your Rep should have a "Schedule Request" under "Constituent Services" on their website. You can request an audience with your Rep. That is your right, and I encourage folks to use it.

No Doc I didn't. Since I voted for all of the folks that represent me and my tax money pays their living I have not said please yet. Maybe I should have but somehow just don't think it would matter much to them.

We frequently contact our elected officials. Sometimes it seems it helps, other times, especially in East Ridge, the entrenched establishment appears to ignore the public and do what they want.

Touche' Doc!

Although I haven't even been reading the political outrage posts, your post is the most sensible, and potentially beneficial. I thought I'd throw in my .02 and post some links that will make it easy for all those so inclined to contact their elected officials. I have found over the years that the vast majority of people arguing and complaining about government not only have never written or called their representatives, they don't even know the names of their officials.
