Did I mention that I work for a seal distributor? No, not the ones that eat baby penguins, the hydraulic/ pneumatic/ fluid kind of seals. Someone just called wanting to know if we had seals for a bass boat trim cylinder that he was working on for a buddy.

We can repair most of that kind of stuff. I'm the Operations Manager so I deal more with the computer systems and people that repairs, but we have a full machine shop and can do just about anything.

If you ever need seals or o-rings and such, ask for me and we'll give you do-it-yourself'er CFF'ers a deal!

I don't mean this as an advertisement, but just to let you know you can save a penny or two if I'm here. We have stores in Nashville, Knoxville, Decatur AL and Paducah KY if you ever need anything...PM me for company name, I guess...

Glad to know that I just spent almost $500.00 to have mine rebuilt!! Will keep this in mind, thanks for the info!

Glad to know that I just spent almost $500.00 to have mine rebuilt!! Will keep this in mind, thanks for the info!

The trim cylinders that were brought in needed a wiper, a piston seal, and an o-ring...$10 worth of parts. Some are made too cheaply to even take apart, but if you can get to them, the seals were on my shelf - in this case - standard parts. That's a good thing...and we could build two new ones like the ones I saw yesterday (older, fairly small) from scratch for $500!

I would like to see a more modern cylinder to see if the newer, larger ones contain standard parts. I'M SURE it won't be long before I need to repair MINEemoAngry and will get a peek...we might have shaft seals, too...but I haven't seen exactly what size/ style they are...but we DO carry a variety of rotary shaft seals as well...emoThumbsup

Well now I feel like I got the shaft!! The parts at the dealer cost $274.88 plus $147.00 for labor plus I was without my boat for almost six weeks!!!! Parts for a yamaha are hard to get according to them! I have a feeling my next motor will be a BLACK ONE!!!! But it's hard to trade since mine is paid for though!!!!!!!!! What caused this to begin with was the spanner nut on top of one trim cylinder backed off & sucked water through the entire system the same thing happened 2yrs ago on the same cylinder. It cost $300.00 that time.

No, CJ, getting the shaft too costs more!emoLaugh

You paid a guy to disassemble it and take it to a place like mine, who charges him hundreds of $ to take the cylinders apart and replace seals and put them back together. He then adds a few $ for himself, and you pay everybody.

I'm not advocating cutting a repair shop or two out of the loop, and our repair facility would charge you some hundereds too, depending on the size and trouble. But, if you can get them apart yourself and bring them to our service counter, we would sell you the seals and even put them on for you, and NO LABOR. You paid for parts and somewhere around 5-6 hours of labor and a 3rd-party markup...not that unrealistic nor an over-charge. BUT, if you did the 6 hours labor yourself you save a fortune!

I just want people to know that if they want and can do it themselves, we probably have the parts and knowledge to help without the huge labor costs.
