Hi everyone,

Great site. I only wish I would have found this site sooner. There's a lot of good information being traded here, and I hope to contribute as much as my limited knowledge allows me to. My new approach has me trying to fly fish for LM on Chick. I've been out Monday and this morning fishing the shoreline with size 4 frog poppers and have been getting into a lot of Sunfish and a couple of baby LM. I am very new to fishing on the lake here and am mainly trying to figure out the best way target decent size bass with my fly rod. Any suggestions? Seems like most of the fish are staying deep (30 ft of water), but my floating line doesn't allow me to get a wet fly that deep. If anyone knows of a general area that has some good vegetation or structure on the shoreline where I might have some success I would appreciate it. If not sounds like I'll have to whip out the spinning reel again.

Happy Hunting and enjoy your Independence day.

welcome to the forum.i have never tried fly fishing but would like to someday.have you tried the nick yet, there is alot of grass coming up now which should produce for you.good luck, and let us know how the fly fishing is going.

If you're comfortable fly casting in the dark, fish the two or three hours prior to dawn. There is some excellent wade fishing below Chickamauga dam, especially if TVA is generating. I generally fish clousers and other baitfish patterns, but have caught some nice fish on poppers down there as well. Good luck.

Yeah... Clousers are good And early morning/late evening into night could produce with as large a topwater fly as your rig will toss. Fish that like a dying baitfish. Also large shad-imitating streamers should do well.

If you have a sinking fly line option you can weight a streamer or use a large size clouser and get those deeper fish under the right conditions,

Good Luck ! And check out my dear late Grand dad below ... he said he was fishing for "food" that daywith hisonly tied popper. emoGeezer

Fall is the best time of year to fly fish for LM's and big white bass. Use any kind of small poppers. The boils at the nuke can sometimes produce both species early in the AM in July and August.
