Something dear to my heart LOL.... A few months ago I found out I had Charcoe Marie Tooth Disease (CMT) and without a cure the best solution to a long healthy life is diet/exercise. So, I've been re-arranging my lifestyle with diet and getting back in the gym 4-5 days per week. My Doctor recommended that I start an all Organic and Gluten Free diet and intake 125-150g's of lean protein per day. Fishing and being on the water some days for 8-10hrs makes this tough so with doc's supervision I've been supplementing some meals and after workouts with protein shakes/smoothies.

I've always known it's hard to find a good protein smoothie you can make at home without a ton of cheap carbs and calories but I think after some trial and error, I've found the right combo and thought I'd share it with those interested.

Earth Fare Soy Protein Powder "Unsweetened Vanilla" has 0 Carbs and only 100 Calories. It has little to no taste, just powdery texture like everything else. No artificial colors, sweeteners or preservatives. It was $12 for around 20 servings.

I'm mixing w/ Jamba All Natural Smoothies and 8oz of Skim Milk and ice. The Jamba mix comes in 4 flavors, my favorite has been Strawberry/Banana but I've liked the others as well.

All in all when adding the Jamba mix and Skim Milk I'm getting approx 40g's of Protein, only 15 carbs, and 140 calories, per smoothie. No Gluten, artificial flavors, preservatives, etc, etc....

Best part is it taste great and the texture turns out perfect everytime. Anybody else out there got a secret brand they like, I'm open to try something new. It just can't be packed w/ hormones and artificial sweeteners, etc.

Hey Louie, I usually use EAS protein that you can get about anywhere. I get a 5lb bag at Sam's pretty cheap. It has 23g protein and only 3 carbs. I mix it with frozen blueberries or strawberries, soy milk, ground flaxseed, banana and sometimes Greek yougurt and blend. If you want some extra just throw in some almonds.

A good place to find a lot of smoothie recipes is the Abs Diet.

Protein powder, milk, peanut butter, steel cut oatmeal, frozen strawberries, and plain yogurt. Very thick and filling. Probably a few more carbs than your shake Louie but it's good if your working out. Its one of the ABS smoothies.

I've had something similar Lance, thanks. I have been instructed to stay away from Oatmeal b/c it's a good hiding place for Gluten, unless it's just plain organic oats I can't have it anymore. And, that's a bummer b/c I'm a big Oatmeal fan.
