I am looking into starting a little lawn operation with a buddy of mine this coming year. Just wondering what to expect. And what I should get. What type of zero turns are the best? What weedeater, blower, etc brand are the best? I'm also looking to buy a 7x10 trailer if anyone has one. Maybe a little smaller. Just needing opinions and what to expect! I'm shooting for 10 to fifteen lawns at first. Atleast thats what I believe is possible to get.

I've been in the business for quite a while (Atalnta market). Starting out right now is tough but doable. Watch your initial capitol output. There is a bunch of used equipment out there if you look. (unfortunaely a lot of the mid to big size folks overextended and folded..so there is equipment out there). Starting small and initially conservative is the way to go. Try not to low bid your work. Stick to your guns. If you are good you'll get customers. For equipment, most of the big names are good all with pros and cons and personal preference playing a roll. Demo before you buy and see if it does what you want. We like echo blowers , some swear by Sthil..personal preference.
Don't grow too fast and get overwhelmed...grow slow and steady.
One big piece of advice is to put a sign on your truck and at least wear t-shirts with your company name. This will lead to more customers.. Customers equate professionalism with the package and impression you present. Look sharp and you'll get noticed.
Back to fishing!
Good luck!

Yes I am here in the chattanooga area. I do have a trailer for sale and I can help u out with
Mowers and other equipment. Feel free to call me 423-667-9727.

I owned small time mowing business while living in Oklahoma and still in the Air Force. My brother and I mowed on most weekends and some during the week after work. Try to get in with a major bank branch and maintain their empty homes, lots and retail buildings. It's a way to build your business. I had contracts with the Bank of Oklahoma and couldn't take on all the work available at the time.

I have a cousin that may be getting out of that business and selling his equipment. If interested pm me.

Caleb, go over to R&S tractor on Water Level hwy there in Cleveland and ask for David. Get him to show you the Bush Hog zero turn mowers, they are an outstanding product and you will get good service there as well.

I am not in the mowing business but I do mow more than I care too. If you own a real estate business you are going to have to mow grass. (or have it mowed) I ended up buying all of my equipment and my maintenance guy and I do the mowing. I prefer a Redmax trimmer & blower, I have had others but the Redmax just holds up better. For the zero turn we use a grasshopper. We also have a little piece of crap Wal-Mart push mower but we don’t use it much. The zero turn and trimmer will usually take care of the job. As far as getting a contract here is my 2 cents from a person that thinks about hiring a mowing company. GET WORKMAN’S COMP INSURANCE & some sort of small bond. I have people cold call me all of the time about mowing in the springtime and the first thing that I ask is if they have workman’s comp. If they say they don’t have insurance I am not interested in talking to them anymore. (And I have not asked the price yet I would not let them mow for free without insurance on the guys that are working) 2nd thing is get a nice sign for you truck and shirts like the other guy said. That is my 2 cents but might be only worth one. Good luck!!

I've got a Scag Tiger cub 48" with 19hp Kawasaki engine in good shape I'll sell you for $3500. Its about 5 years old and only used to mow my 3/4 acre yard.

I wish I could. My lawn care business dream might be coming to a close. With some things that are beyond my control happened and might not be able to do it anymore.

Don't buy a $40,000 truck to pull $15,000 worth of equipment. Get a 5 speed S10 and a trailer with brakes.</p>

p.s. I retired at 53 and have never owned a new car or truck in my life.
