Casted it out. I usually give it a sharp jerk to dive down quick. And SNAP!

This is my all-time favorite crank and I have had it on one rod or the other since last year. I have caught many fish on this.

Anyone ever had any problems out of the Rapalas??

That makes me question the strength of that thin little strip on plastic when it comes to having a good fish on. Has anyone ever had a fish to take off with 95% of your lure and you get the lip back?

I've also seen a DT come apart like that. I kept an assortment of DT's and actually have fished them less because of this.

The DTs are some of my favorite cranks and I've never broken one like that. Is it a DT 4 or 6? Also, call Rapala and see if they'll replace it. If you have a problem, mention that you're a regular contributor to an online fishing site and that you'll be posting their response.

I had a dt-10, that I only made 3 casts with do it. Got grass on it, slapped it on water to get grass off, pop broke bill clean off.

It is a 6. I didn't smack mine or nothing. Just casted it out and gave it a sharp jerk to make it dive quickly.

Dude, I don't know? I mean...how much did you fish it? If you threw that lure 2000 times a day for over a year than I'd say you got your 6 bucks worth. Plus you kind of have to think about the rigors a plastic bait is put through. I mean you crash this thing through brush, rip-rap, docks, pulling it loose from a basses' mouth for the 600th time, and just general pressure of resistance to the water as it wiggles back and forth 100,000,000,000 times and the equation all adds up to the fact that no-one's lucky crankbait is going to last forever. I,ve killed numerous of various brands. Its a consumable resource just like any other and is meant to be used til failure than discarded and replaced. I give such a long answer after having a co-angler go ballistic over his busted LuckyCraft. Dude, its just part of it!

Happend to me once on a rapala countdown. A brand new one, the first time using it. I didnt give it a hard jerk just cast it nicely and reeled it in slowly. I don't know why but when i pulled it out of the water ready for my next cast, it just came apart.emoScratch

All of the ones that I broke were DT 10's and had minimal use. This is why I quit buying Poe's a long time ago. They were my all time favorite, then they just turned to crap. Hmmmm, Crapala DT 10, starting to sound better, lol.

yeah it happens to alot of brands of plastic lip cranks. Slapping grass off, tossing onto riprap and bridge pylons, and pounding hard bottom(rock) seems to be when it happens most often. Also with wood baits, you can develop a crank in the epoxy and water will seep in and swell the wood; the swelling usually happen around the lips and hook holders. For me it happens more often on jerkbaits than crankbaits.

When the pattern is required to rip jerks hard, I hardly make it a day without losing at least one jerk. I have not found an immune brand. Luckily this pattern works well with the cheaper jerks.
