Hello I am just curious if anyone has ever heard of, or knows anything about pawpaw fruits. I recently learned that they even existed and am curious to try them out. For those whohave not heard of pawpaws, they are a fruit that it supposed to taste something like a bannana mango and citrus fruit combined. They are a common native fruit that can be found across the eastern Usa. Apparently they ferment really quickly so because of that they are not a good fruit for the markets.

So a question I have is has anyone actually tried them before, and does anyone have any pointers for finding them? Information about them seems scarce on the internetan the best I have is that they are found near water or in floodplains.

You can buy paw paw trees. I've seen them for sale at many wildlife tree sales.

I have them on one of my properties on the plateau and they are in the the bottoms around the creeks. They are hard to find ripe as the critters usually eat them as soon as they are ready. They look like little green pods about 6-10" long hanging from small tree with smooth round leaves. The first time you see one, you will think "what is that" as the tree and fruit have a very unique look.

They have these trees all through pine log trail in resaca, Ga. It's a really good hiking trail. The first time I saw one I was amazed. They have really big seeds though and not a lot of meat so you would probably need a few of them just to make it a snack.

They can be found in this area. You have to get in areas around streams and steep slopes. They grow well under a shaded canopy. Logging over the years destroyed allot of the trees. If you find areas that haven't been logged, around streams and steeper bluffs, you will find them.
