Anyone like flatwater kayak/canoe fishing?

I'll gladly kayak with you, and I'll gladly fish with you, but I won't kayak AND fish with you. My sea kayak is 22" wide and really needs to be moving just to stay upright! I've been a kayaker and avid fisherman my whole life, so we speak the same language, but my kayaks are for kayaking and my Ranger is the go-to craft for fishing.

Sitting in a buddy's backyard/lakefront property last spring, we were sipping on Margharitas. The bass started feeding in the shallows and he asked if I had my gear in the truck. I did, so we jumped into his 2 man sea kayak and went to it. It was all fine, until we landed a couple of bass. That changes the fun time it "appears to be"! We caught one over 4lbs and one over 5lbs. and it was all we could do to stay upright. I won't do it again. Unless I'm sipping Margharita's and feel a little less inhibited and not minding getting wet! We didn't get wet, but there were some tense moments. Uh... or er thrills. I choose to relax when I fish. And not feel like I'm going to lose my rod, glasses, phone and wallet to say the least.

Hey guys...thanks for your responses. That's the differences in kayaks. Mine are stable. They are pretty much made for flatwater. I've fished and paddled LOTS (and actually caught some good size fish) in them and have never tipped them one time AND I'M CLUMSY!! Glad to hear some input from you. Hope you all have a great week!

Happy fishin'!

I already had a whitewater canoe, but I found a good deal on a lake canoe the other day and bought it.It is awfully cold for sot 's right now. I think you would have had more response to your offer in the spring. If you hooked into a good striper you could take a Chickamauga sleigh ride. When it warms up I want to float the Hiwassee from 411 and would be happy to have company to share the shuttle and such.

That's funny...Chickamauga sleigh ride. Been on one of those in my canoe at harrison bay before. Pretty fun. What's up with all these men and their fear of cold?

take your kayak up to lake Jr. ( by the dam ) and fish for the stocked trout. I did that last year and had a ball. The trout that they put in were between 12 and 15 inches long. This is an easy way to kayak and fish ( and just get out )
