My father in law has a sweet looking rifle that shoots a 6.5 round. Reviews on that round for deer hunting are good but I wanted to know if anyone here has any experience with it. I might be borrowing it this season.

Friend of mine has a 6.5x55 and it is a killer. Make sure you us ammo that will perform on thin skinned game if you will be hunting deer. Good luck

That figures out to be a .257 which has an outstanding ballistic coeffecient. Ammo might be hard to get but that is an excuse to start reloading.

Not a good thing but I think that cartridge is what killed President Kennedy.

My buddy reloads for his - not sure about the powder, but the bullet is the hornady amax and I think his rifle has been reamed out to ackley improved.

I looked in my Speer reloading book. The 6.5X55 was adopted by Sweden and Norway as a service cartridge in 1894. The book mentions the Swedish 1894 Mauser as being a low pressure rifle. To me, reloading is as much fun as shooting. Need to do some research on the Carcano as to the exact cartridge used in it.

OK, here is the skinny. The Italian rifle is the 6.5X52, adopted by the Italian military in 1891. It is described as the Mannlicher-Carcano. Mannlicher refers to the full length stock popularized in Germany.

I agree on the Kennedy gun. I have shot these guns....everyone in the woods, will know when you pull the trigger. emoLaugh

Chattanooga Shooting Supply (Natchez.com) Has Remington, Federal, and Winchester 6.5x55 ammo. It is from $27 to $30 All these were 140 grain. Hope you don't have to zero it in!!!!
