I was looking a some of the AR's at Walmart and was wondering - What is the most popular caliber for AR assult weapons OTHER THAN the 22LR?

I only glanced at them and remember one was a .223 caliber. Seems liked a good varmit caliber.

5.56/223, 22lr and 308(ar-10) are the three most common. The 300 blackout is becoming very popular, but I think it is more expensive to shoot. There are several others.

5.56 and 22lr are most popular. If you go the 22lr route I wouldn't by a AR. I would buy a tactical Ruger 10/22. If you go the 5.56 route I would highly recommend the Palmetto State Armory. You can get a base model for 750-850 depending on where you get it.

Yep the 5.56 is a good varmint gun and I would argue that in the right hands is great deer gun. Be prepared to become obsessed if you get an AR because they are alot of fun to customize and shoot.
