I really liked the "Barbie combo" from that page but most of the fish that I catch might break it on the first go round. I think that it is important to know what kinds and sizes of fish you plan to catch with it. If you are only going to fish for those big catfish some of the big baitcaster/rod combos would be best. If you are planning to catch bluegills, crappie, and/or bass you might want to go to a spinning combo. I tend to buy my rods and reels separate. I find that I can get a reel very inexpensively through ebay, either new or used and a rod on sale that is new from Bass Pro Shops pretty cheap. I haven't bought any used rods on ebay but I would be hesitant to buy a used rod but if you want to buy a used reel, there are some quality reels that last forever that I wouldn't be worried about buying used that have worked out for me. I'm sure that there are some quality new rods to buy on ebay too but I there are so many rods out there that I wouldn't be able to tell if they were worth the price on ebay. If you know exactly what rod you want and you know what it's worth then going for it on ebay would be fine but you can pay too much if you don't know exactly what things are worth when you buy at an auction site like that. Let us know what you will be fishing for and we could be better at telling you what would be worth while.
