Good day to be on the river. Even with the rain and the temps in the low 40s at launch and at days end way up in the 50s. These Northwest Summers are brutal!. Same as usual, launch in a very swift, gin clear river. However, this time would be different as we launched and fished from a drift boat pretty cool. That's until I noticed that all we had to "power" this vessel was nothing more than oars........in a fast river we are gonna use oars and an anchor. Life jacket on..... check. Lets go! First 2 drifts nothing. 3rd drift got a nice 9 lber bright and fresh from the ocean, I caught a 7 lb hen from the same spot. Drifted/ rowed on down the river. Tom landed a nice buck about 11 lbs that still had sea lice on it. All in all a nice day to be on the river despite the weather. Pics coming soon...gotta get them e mailed to me. Fished were caught using a brads diver and prawn (cured coon stripe shrimp) back troll was the ticket.
Now some of you are wondering ...3 fish and a good day? Note that a good Steelhead angler on average cathces 1 fish for every 18 hrs of fishing and today we went 3 for 3.
