oh what a day to be on the river. My son Sam was able to to limit out on Steelhead in true Pacific Northwest fashion. Temp was 42 degrees at launch burrrrr! and warmed to about 71 by days end. River was as usual cold and clear and flowing about 6k. Backtrolling was the ticket. 1st hole tic..tic BAM! I told Sam to get that rod and set the hook hard, his reply was I don't want to mess up and lose it, fair enough. Hit that hole again with the same result tic tic BAM! Sam landed his very first Steelhead, after all the high fives and hugs were finished. We moved to a hole that just looked to good to pass on, got in the sweet spot... same tic tic tic BAM! Told Sam to do the same thing, his reply OK! Little did we know this fish would be the biggun of the day. After about 12 minutes and 4 long runs later I netted it. Nice well above average Steelhead at a guessed weight of 14lbs. Next couple of holes were unproductive, but we did see the fish there. Next hole ... tangled two rods together and while Marc and I were dealing with this tic BAM! after some controlled chaos and a few 4 letter words like fish , fish , fish... another one the boat.
Had a great day with my son and very good friend. Apologies for the late report, but with a 0300 wake up and 2300 get home, makes a long day. PICS are to big trying to resize and attach.
