.. sometime this week I discovered bow season opened today, on AEDC. I thought it was next week. Anyway I went and scouted for 6 hours yesterday. I didn't get an early start as I had to pick up a hopefully fixed vehicle. It was like 9 till 4 for the scouting. I did see several does and fawns and not too many people. Made me think they might be stirring up in the day. Must be moon phase. I don't have a clue. It's kinda warm around lunch. I found some active trails and a little feeding sign. Beech and muskadines (SP). I opted for the trails close to the road. By the time I got home it was 5 ish. I think I have everything ready. YEA RIGHT. I don't need to get up till 3:30 but wake up at 1:30. I eat some toast and make coffee. Watch somebody kill something in Texas on versas channel. Take a shower and load the Exterra. Good to go. YEA RIGHT. I head down the road and think of some things I may have should have got. I'm trying to get in the woods before everyone else just so I can see where they are. Crap, I forgot sinus pills, that's gonna be good with the ragweed and goldenrod. The place I was expecting to get snacks and maybe a biscuit are closed, New owners. Glad I eat toast. Get to the spot and take a leak. Turn around and see my shadow from the moon and jump. Oh yeah, yesterday when I came back to this place to hang my treestand, I see a nice blacksnake. Crap, forgot the cap light and all the other flashlights. Being we are in a drought, I didn't figure there could have been over 10,000,000 snakes between my stand and that pond next to the road. I treaded lightly. I really don't see a bowel movement in 3 weeks. I made it to the stand, no bites. 5:15 Seen one guy go to his at 5:30. Pretty quiet till 7. Whack and deer snort. He missed one. Quiet again. 7:15 Rustling. Deer 20 yards, very nervous. Behind limbs. At 40 yrds, open. Whack. That sounded good. HMMMMMMM she is just walking around. Then they came. People One down the firebreak, one through the woods. The guy on the hill that misssed one getting his arrow. I hit a dead limb I didn't see and missed, by a lot! Take tree stand down. Going to walk around where I seen deer yesterday at lunch. Drive 3 miles. Sneak, firebreak no leaves, wind perfect. To make a long story short, lol, I saw a deer, just standing there. 60 yards. It laid down, it got up and moved, maybe 10 yards. It laid back down. I closed 20 yards and was trying to sit down for the wait. I hear rustling. Doe 20 yrds behind me. Didn't miss. About 70 lbs. Yep, forgot the sling to drag a deer. Used the bow sling, that looks nice now. Also forgot I put the tree stand on top of the Exterra till I got home and tried to drive in the garage emoBang Had to disassemble both the luggage rack and tree stand. She doesn't know this part of the story yet. My deer made 8 checked in, 2 bucks, at 1:00 central.

Or his life jacket if his LAST trip into the woods with Rick is any indicator. Just one word of advice Spur.... DO NOT complain about the cold around Rick. He's kind of sensitive about whining.... I've heard anyway...

Good. Stay in the woods and leave the Smallmouth for me. Just kidding, good luck on the deer hunting, I hope you get A GOOD ONE.
