In the never ending search for more smallmouth streams I headed to the Barren Fork river outside of McMinville this morning after work. On the fifth cast I hooked my first fish, fat little 12" Smallie! Good start so far. Walked maybe a mile of river, never got any deeper than my waist and most of the time it was between my knees and my ankles. Fished for three hours and it rained the whole time but I was luvin' it! Good little river so far, really more of a creek.
Half way through my walk I came up to a pool that tailed out to a fast chute. Pulled one smallie and two trout out of the chute, then focused my attention to the pool. Made a cast upstream to the deepest part of the pool(waist deep) and started reeling the Rebel Wee Craw back. Half way back, WHAM, then singing drag! Another nice smallie. Taped out to a smidge over 14" (and very FAT) but fought like a 18"er.
Wound up catching 3 Smallies, 3 Redeyes, 3 Bream, and 2 Trout, all fell to the Rebel Wee Craw. Threw a Floating Rapala Minnow but no takers. I think a found another place to wade for smallmouths.
