I decided to head out to the river after work while my wife etc. visited Disney on ICE. When I uncovered my boat I discovered that a cat had decided to deposit its waste on the carpet of my boat. Makes me hate them even more. After cleaning that up I headed up to the riverpark and put in heading down river. I quickly caught two decent spots on a jig, then the fun started. On the next cast I had a big thump and the fight was on. I hooked into a fish that took off down river and was dragging me with him. After 56 minutes I finally saw the fish, and it took me another 7 minutes to finally hoist it in the boat. An awesome big blue cat...Unfortunately, my digital camera had dead batteries so I was forced to take some pictures a dusk with my camera phone. We tried to estimate the size of the this monster and figured out it was around 40-45 pounds. The only thing that saved me was getting out from around the barges and letting the beast wear itself out in deep water.
What a blast. I caught this fish on a 6.5 ft Castaway with 12 lb Izorline. I was throwing a black jig with a black/blue critter craw. I will say I have made fun of some catfisherman in the past, but what a rush!!!
Hopefully pictures to come.
